One of the oldest and architecturally most valuable places in Riga is the Moscow Suburb, which first emerged just outside the walls of Riga in the 13th century. Today the Moscow Suburb is home to all the merchants and customers’ dream – the Central Market of Riga. The 21-storied Academy of Sciences is situated just next to it. It was the first high rise building in Latvia, originally planned as a Collective farmers’ house for the purpose of glorifying the Soviet government. During this tour our guides will help you understand the cultural history of Russians and Jews. You will have the opportunity to visit churches of various denomination. A tour through Riga Central Market – the largest market in the Baltic States – and one of the biggest outdoor markets in Europe. It’s pavilions, former German Zeppelin hangars, have been a striking landmark of the city since 1920s. Its extensive range of products includes food and products characteristic of Latvia-fresh and smoked fish, meat and dairy products, fresh and pickled vegetables, fruit, berries, real country bread and many others. Our guide will take you to the world of colors, aromas and tastes by offering you to try our local specialties.
Have you been to the vicinity of Central Riga which is both close and faraway, often underestimated and unexplored? A non-touristy area with unoccupied and unkept buildings, wooden and brick churches of different denominations and, of course, our famous Central Market, one of the largest in Europe, which will both please your eyes and bring joy to your taste buds!
