INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF CONTEMPORARY HOMO NOVUS

This year HOMO NOVUS will be present not only in theatres but also in cities outside Riga as well as in villages. Among participants will be well-known artists in Latvia alongside with those who have not been seen very frequently. Different free events, master classes will be held in the former Casino Latvija at Kaļķu street.
EVENING CONCERTS AT RIGA DOME CATHEDRAL
Riga Cathedral is a well-known concert venue all over Latvia. The famous organ, built by Walker & Co in the late period of organ building, will give you a unique opportunity to listen to the master pieces of the world class composers and performers.
GALA CONCERT OF THE 50TH JUBILEE OF THE ORCHESTRA RIGA
Well- known Latvian composers’ pieces will be heard in the Gal concert of the 50th Jubilee of the Orchestra Riga “Symphony to Riga” is the creation of Ilona Breģe just for this festive ocasion. New image of Riga appears in the song cycle “Postcards from Riga”, composed by Janis Lūsēns, Valts Pūce and Karlis Lācis. Performers include Zane Dombrovska, the singer, Raimonds Celms and Valdis Siliņš- the singing actors. The Orchestra Riga will play together with the string group of the Sinfonietta Riga. The Gala performance is staged by Reinis Suhanovs as a director and Valdis Butāns as a conductor.

FESTIVAL OF CONTEMPORARY ART SURVIVAL KIT 13

To acquire the freedom of speech and expression, to learn about the different forms of resistance this year’s SURVIVAL KIT Festival “The Little Bird Must Be Caught” will be held and curated by the Latvian Centre for CONTEMPORARY ART and Iliana Fokianaki. Among participants will be more than 30 artists from Africa, America and Europe. The festival venue will be an old bank building in Domes Square, Pils iela 23.
Mikelis Day FAIR
Mikelis Day Fair in Old town Riga wiil be held for three days. Autumn Solstice time is known in Latvia as Mikelis Day.When a day and night is equally long. Farmers have completed their important jobs, harvest have been brought in and it is the time of celebrations. Markets abound in Latvian fruit, vegetables and berries. Costumers are offered homemade products, pastries and bread, smoked fish and meats. Artisans and crafts- men display wooden items, linen, ceramics and jewelry.
STING IN CONCERT

Within the concert series “My songs tour” the legendary British singer Sting will perform at Arena Riga in September. Among other hits he will sing “Englishman in New York”, “Fields of Gold”, “Every Breath you take” and many others. Always looking for something new Sting is known not only as composer and singer, but also author, actor and activist. From Newcastle, where he was born, he moved to London, created the band “The Police”, which is a six Grammy awards wines and is listed into the Rock and Roll Stall of Fame. Individually Sting has got 10 Grammy awards as well Golden Globe and Emmy. He is famous for his intelligent music for decades and is among the most recognized musicians in the world.
